Safe Babies Court Lexington

At Dickerson Children’s Advocacy Center, we pride ourselves on providing support, services, programs, and resources in an effective and time-sensitive manner.

Every seven minutes in the U.S. an infant or toddler is removed from his or her home due to abuse or neglect. 28.5% of maltreatment victims are under the age of 3. Many of these same children experience further trauma in the child welfare system, often through lengthy separations from family and/or multiple foster placements.

Safe Babies Court is working to change that.

Safe Babies Court is a trauma-informed approach to handling child welfare cases involving infants and toddlers under the age of three. It aims to reduce the time children spend in foster care by promoting safe, stable, and nurturing environments through early intervention and coordinated support. Our team works closely with family court partners, child welfare professionals, and caregivers to ensure that the unique developmental needs of our youngest children are met with compassion and care.

At the heart of this model is the Active Community Team (ACT), a group of community partners and organizations who meet monthly to create practical, child-centered solutions to the challenges seen daily in court cases involving infants and families in the Safe Babies Court program. This team-driven approach ensures families receive coordinated services and support tailored to their unique needs.

Through early intervention, strong relationships, and consistent support, Safe Babies Court helps lay the foundation for healthy development and long-term success for our youngest and most vulnerable children.
