Family Advocacy
REPORT ABUSEFamily Advocacy is the practice of supporting children and their non-offending family members as they navigate the challenges that follow experiences of abuse or trauma. At Dickerson Children’s Advocacy Center, our Family Advocacy department plays a vital role in ensuring families receive timely, compassionate, and coordinated care. We provide education, crisis intervention, and referral services, while also serving as a liaison between families and key partners such as Law Enforcement, multiple School Districts, and DSS.
Advocates offer continued support through follow-up contact after services end and can accompany families to court proceedings when requested, ensuring no family walks this journey alone.
Our Family Advocates are here to support you every step of the way. They can connect you and your child to helpful community resources, answer questions about court proceedings, and provide guidance and emotional support throughout the process.

What do Family Advocates do, and can they help caregivers too?
While Dickerson Children’s Advocacy Center primarily provides services for children ages 0–18, our Family Advocates are trained professionals who offer wraparound support for the entire family. They assist with therapy referrals, parenting resources, and basic needs assistance.
In addition, they connect caregivers to helpful local, state, and federal resources to support healing, stability, and overall well-being. Even if services are not provided directly through DCAC, our advocates can guide families to trusted partners and programs in the community.
What can I expect during my meeting with a Family Advocate?
Caregivers will meet briefly with a Family Advocate during their visit to discuss concerns, ask questions, and learn about available resources. This meeting helps us understand your family’s needs and ensures you receive appropriate support—whether that includes referrals for therapy, community services, or assistance with navigating next steps. Our advocates are here to listen, guide, and help you feel informed and supported.
Can Family Advocates provide updates about my case or the investigation?
Family Advocates are not part of law enforcement, the Department of Social Services (DSS), or the legal system, so they cannot provide case updates, investigative details, or legal advice. Their role is to support your family emotionally and practically by offering resources, referrals, and education throughout the process. Any case-related information must come directly from DSS, law enforcement, or your attorney.
