Prevention, Education and Training

Education is one of the most powerful tools in preventing and responding to child abuse. That’s why Dickerson CAC offers free professional training sessions for educators, childcare providers, and community members on how to recognize, report, and respond to suspected abuse. Our team provides a variety of training topics, including:

Recognizing and Preventing Grooming

Learn how to identify grooming behaviors in adults or older children that may indicate a pattern of manipulation or predatory intent.

Mental Wellness in Children

Understand the signs of emotional distress or trauma in children and how to create supportive environments that foster resilience and mental health.

Darkness to Light: Stewards of Children®

A nationally recognized, evidence-based training that teaches adults how to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. (This training requires a $16 workbook per trainee; scholarships are available to those who qualify)

Mandated Reporting

Covers who is legally required to report suspected abuse, how to make a report, and the protections and responsibilities of mandated reporters in South Carolina.

Minimal Fact Finding

Provides guidance on how to respond calmly and appropriately when a child discloses abuse, using neutral, non-leading questions to preserve the integrity of the child’s statement.

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)

Explains how early trauma affects long-term health and development, and what caring adults can do to buffer those impacts.

Child Abuse Response Protocol

The CAC Approach (SC): Provides a detailed look at how Dickerson Children’s Advocacy Center supports children and families, and how our multidisciplinary model put the SC Child Abuse Response Protocol into practice.
